  • Doug Hornak

    Director of Tennis/Head Pro

    Doug is a native of Morgantown, WV and played tennis for Morgantown High School. In his Junior year, he was the AAA WV High School State Tennis Finalist in both singles and doubles at the #1 position. In his Senior year, he won the AAA WV High School State Tennis Tournament at the #1 position. Doug went on to earn a scholarship to play collegiate tennis at West Virginia Wesleyan College where the team achieved a Top 35 National ranking in Division II Men’s Tennis. He had a starting position in both singles and doubles on the team and competed in the NCAA Division II National Championships in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, the team reached the Sweet 16 Round of the NCAA Division II National Championships in Orlando, FL. While competing in this event Doug was awarded the NCAA Elite 88 Award which goes to the player competing in the National Championships with the highest academic GPA. Since graduating, Doug has been coaching tennis for more than 10 years and has coached a number of players who went on to play collegiate tennis. He has earned professional coaching certifications from both the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).

  • Micah Hornak

    Micah is from Morgantown, WV and has played high-level junior USTA (United States Tennis Association) events in the Mid-Atlantic and nationally. As a junior player, he reached a Top 15 ranking in the 16 and Under Mid-Atlantic section that is composed of some of the best tennis talent in the country in West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia. He was went on to play #1 singles position for Fairmont State University and earned First Team All Conference recognition twice in the Mountain East Conference and led the team to a Mountain East Conference Title in 2017. He has many years of coaching experience with players of all ages and skill levels. Micah has earned PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certification in Junior 10 and Under, Junior 10-17, and Performance Level.

  • Terry Deremer

    Terry brings a great combination of teaching experience coaching both junior players and collegiate teams. He was the West Virginia University Men’s Tennis Head Coach from 1979-1994. During his time as Coach, his team won the NCAA Division I Championships in 1988, 1989, and 1990. He also coached three All-American players and seven players that qualified for the NCAA Championships. In 1988 and 1990, Terry earned the award for Eastern Collegiate NCAA Coach of the Year. Later, Terry went on to serve as the Head Tennis Pro at the prestigious Greenbrier Resort from 2003-2015 and Director of Tennis from 2015-2018. During his time coaching juniors, Terry has had 75 juniors that went on to play college tennis and he has taught 10 nationally ranked juniors and 7 players that went on to play tennis at the professional level. In 2014, the

    United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mid-Atlantic recognized Terry with the Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2013 he was inducted into the Fairmont State University Hall of Fame. He is currently serving as the Men’s Tennis Coach for Fairmont State University.

  • Michaela Eddins

    Michaela is from Pennsylvania where she was a 3 time Pennsylvania AAA State Champion. As a junior player, she held the #1 ranking in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States section. She also Won 5 USTA National Open Events; 2 in the 16 and under division, 3 in the 18 and under division. In addition, she won a USTA National Open Doubles Title with her sister and fellow Summit staff member Joelle Kissell in the 18 and under division. Michaela was a blue chip recruit out of high school and played Division I tennis for both Miami University (FL) and Marshall University. She achieved a national singles ranking of 23rd and 14th in doubles. While playing on scholarship, she won the Atlantic regional tournament in doubles her Junior year and in singles her Senior year. And she was selected into the NCAA tournament for both singles and doubles her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior seasons. After college, she spent 7 years coaching at the Division I level. Her first year was at Cornell University as the Assistant Coach, and the following year at the University of Pittsburgh as the assistant and then interim Head Coach. Following that, she spent 5 years as the head coach at Western Carolina University where her teams broke the all time win records for overall wins in singles, doubles and team matches.

  • Yvon Martinez

    Yvon is from South America and moved from Venezuela to Colombia at the age of 7. Soon after, she fell in love with the game and began playing competitive tournaments around Colombia and played primarily on red clay until the age of 17. Then, she had the opportunity to move to the United States with her family. She played for Canon McMillan in Canonsburg, PA as a Junior in high school and she played for Pine Richland in Wexford, PA as a Senior in high school. Her excellent results and playing record earned her a scholarship and starting position for the WVU Women’s Tennis Team. While at WVU, she taught young children tennis at North Elementary School as part of a school outreach program. She has since excelled at teaching children and adults of all ages at Summit Tennis Academy.

  • Joelle Kissell

    Joelle is a Pennsylvania native who captured the PIAA state championships in both singles and doubles in high school. As a high school player she was rated a five-star recruit and was ranked in the top 50 nationally. She went on to play Division I college

    tennis at NC State University where she earned a scholarship and competed as a student athlete. During her time at NC State she reached a career high of #17 in the ITA. She is a 3 time All-ACC recipient and twice qualified for the NCAA singles tournament. In addition, she holds the NC State school record for the most dual wins in singles and doubles as a student athlete. Joelle served as Volunteer Assistant Tennis Coach at Western Carolina University and currently serves as a Volunteer Assistant Tennis Coach for the West Virginia University Women’s Tennis Team and Assistant Tennis Coach for the Seton Hill Women’s Tennis Team. She has achieved a career high WTA professional tennis ranking of #790 in the world.

  • Austin “AJ” Noel

    AJ is a native of Hurricane, WV where he played high school tennis at Hurricane high school at the top singles and doubles positions. He went on to play college tennis at Fairmont State University. He has worked at Huntington Tennis Club in Huntington, WV and brings that experience to Morgantown where he teaches both clinics and private lessons at Summit Tennis Academy.

  • Ryan Masinople

    Ryan was a top-ranked player in the state of West Virginia, He played #1 position singles and doubles for George Washington High School. He led his team at George Washington to consecutive West Virginia state tennis titles in 2013 and 2014. Ryan was a National High School Tennis All-American. He went on to play Division-I college tennis for Furman University in Greenville, SC under head coach Kelly Jones.

  • Michael Tompkins

    Michael Tompkins is a native of West Virginia and has lived in Morgantown since 1982. He has over 47 years of experience teaching, coaching and training, players from youth age 4 through adults of all ages. Many of his students have gone on to play collegiately at Division I, II, and III levels.

    He is PTR Certified Professional and was named 2015 PTR member of the year for West Virginia. Michael was owner and Director of Tennis of Ridgeview Racquet Club from 2005 – 2018, Director of Tennis and Head Pro at Lakeview Resort 1990 – 2004. He has directed a wide variety of tennis events ranging from local tournaments to National level junior and college events. For 31 years he has been Tournament Director of the West Virginia State High School Tennis Championships. He has served on Wilson Gold Advisory Staff, USTA Mid-Atlantic States Junior Competitive Committee, USTA After School Program Clinician, and was a USTA/MAS Executive Training Program Coach.

  • Caroline Koval

    Caroline is local to West Virginia and was the first high school Freshman player to win the State Championship at the number 1 singles position, and led her team to become the West Virginia State Champions. She then went on to train at Van der Meer Tennis Academy for two years and achieved a ranking inside the top 80 nationally. While in Hilton Head, SC she won the 16 and 18 and under Van der Meer Fall Invitational Championships. She competed nationally and internationally on the pro circuit. Caroline was a member of the Junior Davis/Fed Cup team and achieved a top 16 finish in Super

    National Hardcourts in juniors. Caroline attended Tulane University on a full athletic scholarship. Koval was a 4-year letter winner who competed in singles and doubles. She finished tied for second with most singles wins on her team. While attending Van der Meer Tennis Academy as a student, Caroline took Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) courses and became PTR certified. She was able to coach other players before and after her training sessions in the summers. She coached sectionally and nationally ranked players of all ages. She learned her coaching techniques from Dennis Van der Meer, as well as from her many coaches during her own experiences as a player.

    Tommy is a native of West Virginia and is a West Virginia High School State Tennis champion in doubles in 2001 and singles in 2002. As a junior player, he achieved a Top 20 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic in the 16 & Under and 18 & Under divisions. He also won the High School National Tennis Tournament in Orlando, FL. He went on to play Division I tennis for University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) where he had a starting position and earned the North East Conference First Team Award.

  • Hamilton Hall

    Hamilton is from Morgantown, West Virginia and played high school tennis for Morgantown High School where he had a starting varsity position. He was the West Virginia Regional Doubles Champion in 2019 and competed in the West Virginia State Tennis tournament in 2017 and 2019 and was a two time OVAC finalist. He went on to play college tennis on scholarship at Shepherd University. He has been a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certified instructor since 2018 and enjoys teaching our junior colored ball players in both lessons and clinics.

    Max plays #1 singles and doubles for the Morgantown High School Tennis Team. He is working to complete his United States Tennis Association (USTA) Level 1 Coaching Certification Program. He enjoys helping our next generation of colored ball tennis players in clinics.

    Mac has over 40 years of retail experience. He will help you pick out the right racquet with our racquet demo and purchase program. Mac will also help you find the right footwear for tennis to be comfortable and play your best. If you are having trouble locating an item, his experience and expertise can help you locate it.

    With 16 years of racquet stringing experience and membership in the USRSA (United States Racquet Stringers Association), Mac feels that proper racquet stringing is as important as the choice of racquet. He will help you choose the best string and tension based on your experience level and style of play.
